Our History

The Austin Pride Service was conceived in a meeting of the Reconciling Committee of Trinity United Methodist Church. The first service was coordinated by members of the Reconciling Team led by Dr. Sidney Hall. The 2001 service included nine churches: St. Andrew's Presbyterian, MCC Austin, the Kingdom Seekers, University Baptist, St. George's Episcopal, Church of the Savior, St. Hildegard's Community and First Unitarian Universalist.

The next year, 2002, 18 communities joined the service and it became a multifaith event. In 2003, 22 communities joined our efforts and widened the spectrum of participating communities. In 2005, over 40 communities joined our efforts.

Thus far, we have been fortunate to have as speakers Dr. Sidney Hall, Rev. Ken Martin, Rev. Babs Miller, Rev. Davidson Loehr and Rev. Mary Wilson. We have also been blessed to have musical talents from the Austin Jewish community, the Tapestry Singers, Cap City Men's Chorus, the MCC Children's Choir and First UMC Choir.
